Illustrare: v. 1. to illuminate. 2. to poke at sacred cows

Pictures saturate our world. They can be overwhelming, yet are undeniably the most effective global communication currency. The task of the illustrator is to (quickly) create smart, concise images that cut through the visual noise. Ones with cross-cultural accessibility - but that first touch the target audience in whatever country or community they originate. Illustration without an idea is decoration.

Style can adapt to material. Unlike fine art, illustration needs to engage immediately - with humour or horror, in monochrome or full colour - whatever approach will make the viewer think and feel in a fresh unexpected way... and hopefully stay with them for some time after.
